For the third year in a row, Wildlife Conservation Network received significant funding from Disney Club Penguin through its "Coins for Change" campaign. This year, Club Penguin is donating $150,000 to support the work of six WCN partner projects and one WCN Expo guest speaker:
- Andean Cat Alliance: to build community support for Andean cat conservation
- Niassa Lion Project: to reduce bushmeat snaring of lions
- Painted Dog Conservation: to build a conservation ethic for children through bush camps
- Proyecto Titi: to build support for cotton-top tamarin conservation and to develop student conservation leaders
- Saiga Conservation Alliance: to build support for saiga conservation among communities and schoolchildren
- Snow Leopard Conservancy: to train snow leopard "scouts" to work with rangers to monitor snow leopard movements
- Lowland Tapir Conservation Initiative: to build support among communities and schoolchildren for tapir conservation
Club Penguin is an online, virtual world for kids. They earn virtual coins for participating in an online community and playing games. Every holiday season, Club Penguin gives its players the opportunity to make an impact in the real world by donating their virtual coins to real-world causes. This year, Club Penguin donated $2 million to causes, with $740,000 going to conservation programs.
WCN is grateful to Disney Club Penguin for its generous support!
